Writing, performance and fellowship for young and emerging poets.
I’ve spent the past eight years leading fortnightly Wednesday workshops between September and April, facilitating writing challenges, craft talks, peer feedback and performance exercises. I approached the Barbican with a proposal for the project in 2009, with the intention of building something that went beyond a typical “workshop” programme in favour of building a creative community.
One of the many things that excites me about the programme is the broad range of poetics and perspectives represented by the poets we work with. Barbican Young Poets celebrates poetry in all its forms and guises.
Over the years, I’ve worked with a range of assistant tutors, including Miriam Nash, Dorothy Lehane, Kayo Chingonyi and Jasmine Cooray. I’m currently supported by Rachel Long.
